薪酬差距、发明家晋升与企业技术创新

Wage Gap, Innovator Promotion and Firm Technological Innovation

摘要: 本文主要考察企业内部管理层与普通员工间薪酬差距对技术创新的影响,并对发明家晋升促进技术创新这一机制进行检验。发明家创新与晋升锦标赛模型表明,薪酬差距扩大将提高发明家晋升激励,鼓励发明家增加创新投入,进而促进企业技术创新。论文使用中国A股制造业上市企业数据对理论模型检验后发现,薪酬差距扩大对企业技术创新具有正向促进效应,提高发明家创新效率和参与意愿,而发明家所获专利增加能够提高其晋升管理层概率,晋升管理层的发明家通过提高研发投入强度、改善研发创新效率、吸引高水平发明家等途径促进技术创新。理论与经验分析研究显示,薪酬差距通过发明家晋升渠道对企业技术创新产生正向促进效应。

Abstract: This paper mainly investigates the influence of the wage gap between executives and ordinary employees on corporate technological innovation and the mechanism.According to the tournament model, which is related to innovators' competition and career promotion, the wage gap between executives and ordinary employees has positive effects on innovation.Based on the panel data of Chinese listed manufacturing firms, this paper tests the research hypothesis of the theoretical model from the baseline model, panel instrumental variables and propensity score matching.The results of the study show that an increase in the wage gap has a significant positive effect on corporate technological innovation, but its marginal effect decreases.The positive effect of the wage gap is more evident in high-tech firms, non-SOE firms and firms that located in areas with low institutional quality.The increase in the wage gap significantly improves the innovation efficiency and innovators' willingness to participate, further enhancing the possibility that they will receive a promotion.The inventors in top management team tend to increase R&D expenditure, innovation efficiency, and hiring high-quality innovators.Based on the theoretical model and empirical analysis, this paper finds that the wage gap produces a positive effect on corporate technological innovation through the channel of innovation promotion.
